What is Lomo’s Metropolis by Chilledtonesphotography -

This is my first film overview, so I wanted to try something new. For that Lomo’s Metropolis is what came to mind. Lomo’s Metropolis is developed like any other C-41 film, but the color tones are not like any other.

For this overview I kept it simple. I used my Contax N1 with a 50mm 1.4, for every shot. I had three rolls to use, and had them developed at The Darkroom in Cali.  As I said before Lomo’s Metropolis is a C-41 color negative with an ISO rating of  100-400. So I took a few test shoots from ISO 25-1600. To see how it handles being overexposed, and under. Below are the results, Starting with ISO 25.

From what I see., I would most likely rate this film at 200. As the shadow detail is muddy, but that is part of the look. Now for the fun part. Going out to shoot. I asked my friends to help me try this film out. The first few images are of my friend Lethal_Souffle. We met up downtown NYC to take the south ferry. We hopped on right before sunset. All the shots were rated at 400.

After the evening had ended, I still had a 2 more rolls to go. Once again I asked a friends if they are free, for a small shoot. We met up in Chinatown, before grabbing some drinks. Here are more shots, rated at 400.

Before meeting up, I read that reds tend to pop. This may be due to the fact that all the cooler tones are muted. So with that in mind, I took my RGB LED to add some red lighting. Looking over the images I would say yeah. Reds pop. Being a new film stock I had no real idea what to expect. Looking over the result I have mixed feeling. I love the look of this new film stock, but I cant see myself using it for everything. For one its on the expensive side. If one was to purchase from Lomography directly, you would have to purchase 5 minimum. At $12.90 each, that 2-3 times the price of most C-41 film stock. Overlooking the price, this is a unique look. That alone would make the price well worth it. Defiantly not a everyday film, but for those moments you want something different. Give it a try.

Below are some images I took at Random.

Lomography, have given us something new, and unique to keep film alive.
